Best ChatGPT Prompts for Teachers

Lesson plans, grading feedback, parent emails, and quizzes โ€” the teaching tasks AI actually saves time on.

Teachers lose hours every week to paperwork that isn't teaching. These are the prompt types that give the most time back, with the exact details to include so the output is usable on the first try.

1. Lesson plans

Give the AI your grade level, subject, standard, class length, and what students already know. Ask for objectives, a hook, guided practice, independent work, and an exit ticket. The best lesson-plan prompts also ask for differentiation: one scaffold for struggling students, one extension for fast finishers.

2. Differentiated worksheets

One topic, three reading levels. Prompt for the same content rewritten at below-level, on-level, and above-level, with the key vocabulary defined at each level. This used to take an evening; now it takes one prompt and a review pass.

3. Grading feedback

Paste a rubric and a student response (anonymized โ€” never paste student names or identifying details into any AI tool). Ask for feedback tied to each rubric row: one strength, one specific fix. The output is a starting point you edit, not a grade you hand over.

4. Parent emails

The hardest emails are the sensitive ones: missing work, behavior, a struggling student. A prompt that sets a warm, factual, solution-focused tone โ€” "state the observation, state the impact, propose one next step" โ€” turns a 20-minute draft into a 2-minute edit.

5. Quizzes and exit tickets

Ask for questions at mixed difficulty with an answer key and one-line explanations. Then check every answer yourself โ€” AI occasionally writes a confident wrong answer, and a quiz is the worst place for that to slip through.

The rule for all of it

AI drafts, you decide. Never paste student names, grades, or private information into a prompt, and always verify factual content before it reaches students. Used that way, prompts give teachers their evenings back.
